Goldenrod harvest, 2011

Oh, the joy I felt when I came home from my trip to Florida and I saw my goldenrod in full bloom.   She was HUGE!  Almost 10 feet tall… so ripe and abundant.

I still have some tincture left from last year, but my honey, vinegar and infused oil is all used up, so it was time to replenish my stock.

I was amazed that I was able to harvest 3 times what I usually do from this stand of Goldenrod.  I can’t believe how she’s grown.

I love Goldenrod’s tiny, bright flowers.

Since I had so much plant material to work with, I used primarily blooms and small leaves and malleable stems for my tinctures and elixirs, as well as my oxymel blend and infused honey.  The rest of the leaves were dried for tea this winter.

For the elixir, I used raw honey and brandy with my goldenrod blooms.  Oxymel is an infusion of honey and vinegar *yum*!  I can’t wait to try that one.  You KNOW I’ve already dipped into it and it’s awesome.  LOL

When everything is ready I will taste test and compare all of my goldenrod goodness and send in a report.  :)

In my opinion, not much is better than herbalism… not much at all… except maybe my wolf, Shiloh.

  1. Oh wow!!! Look how your Goldenrod grew — Golden Sweetness!!! I’m liking the idea of your “Oxymel” (first time I’ve heard that word before, lol!)…you are so lucky to have such a wonderful crop growing there; mine is already going to ‘seed’, most of it anyways, so maybe I’ll be lucky to get out and harvest that and dry some of the good stuff, and save the seeds for it — hey, maybe I’ll start something inside as an experiment, and see how it goes over the end of Fall/early Winter season!!!

Hugs and thanks for sharing all your lovely work with all of us, Dana xo
